Certified Mold Remediation & Removal in St. Louis
Don’t just bleach it. Remove it. Scientific mold elimination for a healthy home.
The Invisible Intruder
Mold is scary. It’s not just ugly; it feels like a violation of your home’s safety. In St. Louis, where our summers are humid and our basements are damp, mold is a constant threat. But there is a lot of misinformation out there.
You might have a contractor tell you to “just spray some bleach on it,” or a family member tell you “it’s just a little mildew.”
At Fast Help, we take a science-based approach. Mold is a living organism. To stop it, you have to do two things: physically remove the colony and eliminate the moisture source. If you don’t do both, it will come back. We are certified experts who follow the ANSI/IICRC S520 Standard—the gold standard for safe mold removal.
Why "DIY" Mold Removal Usually Fails: The Bleach Myth
If you take one thing away from this page, let it be this: Do not use bleach on porous surfaces.
- The Chemistry: Bleach has a high surface tension. When you spray it on moldy wood or drywall, the chlorine stays on the surface, bleaching the color out of the mold so it looks clean. However, the water in the bleach penetrates deep into the wood, actually feeding the roots (hyphae) of the mold.
- The Result: A few weeks later, the mold comes back, often stronger and more aggressive than before.
Professional remediation doesn’t rely on chemical tricks. We rely on physical removal and negative air pressure.
Our Remediation Process
1. Containment & Engineering Controls
The biggest risk during mold removal is spreading the spores to the rest of your house. Before we touch a single piece of mold, we build a fortress. We use heavy-duty plastic sheeting and Negative Air Pressure machines to create a vacuum effect, ensuring that nothing floats out to your living areas.
2. HEPA Air Scrubbing
Mold spores are microscopic. We run industrial “Air Scrubbers” equipped with HEPA filters that capture 99.97% of airborne particles. We literally scrub the air clean while we work.
3. Physical Removal (The Heavy Lifting)
We remove materials that cannot be saved (porous drywall, carpet). For structural wood, we use HEPA-vacuums, sanding, wire-brushing, or Dry Ice Blasting to physically grind the mold off the wood.
4. Detailed Cleaning & Antimicrobial
Once visible mold is gone, we clean every inch of the containment area. Finally, we apply an EPA-registered antimicrobial sealant to the wood to discourage future growth.
5. Final Testing
How do we know we’re done? We don’t guess. We can arrange for third-party air quality testing to verify that the spore count inside your home is lower than the air outside.
Things to Know About Mold
- Dead mold is still dangerous. Even if you “kill” the mold with a chemical, the dead spores can still cause allergic reactions and respiratory issues. It must be physically removed from the air and surfaces.
- “Black Mold” isn’t the only bad guy. While Stachybotrys (black mold) gets the headlines, other common molds like Aspergillus and Penicillium can produce mycotoxins and cause serious health issues for people with asthma or immune deficiencies.
- Paint doesn’t kill mold. Painting over mold is like putting a band-aid on a broken leg. The mold will eat through the paint eventually, and the paint layer actually makes it harder for us to remediate later.
- Insurance coverage varies. Insurance policies differ greatly on how they treat mold. The best way to know if you are covered is to have us come out and inspect the property to pinpoint the exact source of the moisture. We are experts at locating the source (e.g., a hidden pipe burst vs. general humidity), and that finding is usually the key to determining if coverage applies.
