Storm & Flood Damage Restoration in St. Louis
Storms in our area are violent. We get the “supercell” thunderstorms that bring 60mph winds, golf-ball-sized hail, and torrential rain all at once. When a tree hits your home or a flash flood rushes through your door, the damage is overwhelming. It’s wind damage, water damage, and debris all mixed together.
I myself had hail damage that caused a roof leak, then the next year a tree fell and crushed a car. It sometimes feels like it never ends.
Fast Help is your local command center for storm recovery. We aren’t storm chasers from out of town who knock on your door and disappear. We are your neighbors. We are here before the storm, and we will be here long after the cleanup is done.
Why Storm Water is Different
When water enters your home from a storm (especially ground flooding), it is considered Category 3 (Black Water).
- Contaminants: Flood water picks up everything on the ground: motor oil from the street, fertilizers from lawns, animal waste, and overflowing sewer systems.
- Safety Hazard: You should not wade in flood water without protective gear. It causes infections and sickness.
- The “Mud” Factor: Storm water brings silt and mud that settles into carpets and wall cavities. Even if the water dries, the dirt remains, holding bacteria and odors.
Our Storm Recovery Services
1. Emergency Board-Up & Tarping
If a window is blown out or a tree is through the roof, our first priority is security. We board up openings and tarp roofs to protect your property from further rain and looting.
2. Heavy-Duty Extraction
For basement flooding, household shop vacs aren’t enough. We use gas-powered trash pumps and industrial extractors to move thousands of gallons of water out of your home quickly.
3. Debris Removal
We haul away the ruined drywall, the soaked carpet, and the storm debris. We handle the heavy lifting and the disposal.
4. Cleaning & Sanitizing
Because storm water is dirty, we don’t just dry; we sanitize. We pressure wash concrete floors with antimicrobial agents and treat studs to prevent mold and bacteria growth.
5. Electrical Safety Inspection
We work with electricians to ensure that your submerged outlets and panels are safe before you turn the power back on.
Things to Know About Storm Damage
- Wind vs. Flood Insurance. This is the biggest confusion for homeowners.
- Wind-driven rain (e.g., rain blew in through a broken window or hole in roof) is usually covered by standard Homeowners Insurance.
- Rising water (e.g., creek overflowed, street flooded and came in door) is Flood Insurance, which is a totally separate policy (FEMA). Standard policies do not cover rising water. We can help you determine which one caused your damage.
- Take photos immediately. Before you throw anything away, take pictures of the water height and the damaged items. The insurance adjuster needs proof.
- Don’t wait for power. We have generators. We can start the drying process even if your power is out. Waiting for the utility company to fix the lines can mean days of mold growth.
- Sump Pump Failure. If the storm knocked out power and your sump pump stopped, causing a flood, check your policy for a “Sump Pump Failure” endorsement. This often saves the day.
